Working within the Finance Department of a UK Group of Lloyd’s Insurance Market companies, this role is responsible for the preparation of internal and external reports including group company reporting, all Lloyd’s regulatory returns, associated management information and other project work.
The role will also include some aspects of Syndicate Accounting for live Syndicates, including the review of data input, and liaison with underwriters and actuaries for the production of management information and regulatory returns. The candidate will also prepare analytical tools and reports to support the information produced.
Preparation of syndicate financial reports, including QMA, QMB, SII, US Reporting, Canadian Reporting and statutory accounts, amongst others.
Necessary liaison with parties involved in the process, in particular within the Finance area, to ensure the end result is delivered in the timeframe and to the standard required.
Accounting of insurance technical and non-technical transactions in the relevant ledgers of the Syndicates, including the handling of all technical aspects affecting the syndicate ledgers.
Support for the operational aspects of the production of ledgers, including the preparation of account reconciliations and analysis of balance sheet and profit & loss items.
Preparation of statutory accounts for group companies, including corporate members.
Production of analytical tools and analytical memos supporting each one of the reports produced.
Assistance in planning and production of reports and ensuring that they are produced in accordance with the relevant timetables, ensuring that there is enough time for a proper management review and understanding of the figures.
Development of diagnostics and continuous interaction with underwriters and actuaries in order to develop the understanding of the figures.
The preparation and maintenance of timetables and department resource planning.
Handling of all technical aspects affecting the production of syndicate returns.
Managing all operational aspects of the production of documents, in order to ensure the timely and accurate production of syndicate returns.
Maintenance of the sound system of internal controls, including where appropriate SOX controls
Liaison with third parties involved in the production of financial data (e.g. actuaries, underwriters, other areas of Finance, in order to ensure that the Department counts on all the resources (time, quality of data, etc) needed for a proper review and analysis
Liaison with internal and external auditors at the highest level and ensuring that all the information required is produced and the audits are completed on time
Responsibility for the development of process improvements in order to ensure efficient and accurate production of data
Responsibility for the documentation of procedures affecting the areas under supervision
Active participation on various other projects
Exposure to the Lloyd’s market as an accountant or an auditor
Exposure to reporting activities to senior management committees
Experience with live Syndicates
Exposure to a SOX environment
Working knowledge of Lloyd’s accounting and reporting rules, UK GAAP, Companies Act
Advanced experience of using Excel
Advanced report writing skills
Very good verbal communication
Knowledge of Lloyd’s software
Exposure to insurance accounting standards
Knowledge of IFRS

CIMA / ACCA / CA
