About the role:
As the Technical Director you will be a senior member of the Digital Team and report into the Head of Digital and COO of Production Services.
The purpose of the role is to assume complete and strategic direction for the technical component of all deliverables to our clients, ensuring that projects are optimally specified and trafficked through the agency adhering to the chosen process methodology. You will provide support and guidance to our development team ensuring all projects are developed using the appropriate techniques and technologies.
It is important for the Technical Director to have excellent personal communication and presentation skills and be comfortable working with clients, producers and “techies” alike.
Responsibilities:
Leadership of technical strategy across multiple clients
Ensure that technical projects are delivered successfully, and on time & budget
Create and manage technical/solution design documentation and technical writing
To define, communicate and enforce coding standards across development team
Partner with Commercial, Producer and Creative teams to develop initial concept for client projects and define project scope, budgets and timelines as well as to ensure quality and timely development and delivery
Lead offshore development teams to oversee technical architectures, project development, organization, processes and implementation of strategies
Creation and review current and propose technical business processes
Design system test requirements/test cases to ensure quality of delivery – in conjunction with our QA Manager
Attend client briefings with the commercial team. Gather requirements and agree on the client and project objectives
Prepare response to RFP’s and estimates
Conduct risk assessments. Monitor risks throughout the project life cycle and escalate issues early
Ensure all proposals presented to the client have been qualified from a technical perspective
Attend and present at pitches. Provide expert advice on technical solutions and delivery of projects
Prepare technical project schedules and work with the Operations Manager to resource projects
Meet with Development team regularly, know the status of all projects from a top level and be ultimately responsible for the successful technical delivery of projects
Complete internal systems and reports. Provide weekly/monthly reports to the management on time. Ensure any issues/variations are reported at the earliest opportunity
Keep up to date with technologies and use your knowledge to improve processes and quality, and identify new business opportunities and implementation of these

Ensure technical solutions are implemented with understanding of both client and business needs

Demonstrate a thorough understanding of clients and group business strategy by accurately gathering requirements and setting objectives for the team
All technical documentation and processes are completed and adhered to
RFPs, estimates and schedules are accurate and delivered on time
All risks and possible solutions are captured in risk assessments and issues are escalated in a timely fashion
Receive positive feedback from the client, development and producer teams on your performance and contribution
Complete all internal systems e.g. timesheets on time and accurately
Experience:
Experience in Open Source and Mobile technologies such as LAMP, Java, HTML, CSS, Flash
Good experience of enterprise-level and/or open source CMS platforms
Experience in understanding the customer requirements, prepare estimates and solution overview/architecture
Solid grasp of test plans, creating test cases, and scripts needed to evaluate database loads, quality assurance and review code
Experience in assessing infrastructure gaps and enablement roadmaps/plans development
Experience in both agile and waterfall project management methodologies
Ability to formulate business requirements
Experience working as a Technical Director in a fast paced Agency environment
Experience in defining system requirements and system interactions
Experience working with offshore production teams is advantageous
Experience scoping and estimating projects up to £1m
Experience dealing with senior level clients
Experience pitching and presenting
