Job Description
Job Summary:
Working with the head of exposure, Management and the group head of catastrophe modelling to assist in the underwriting analysis that will underpin the construction, development and support of the company and the group’s exposure management and catastrophe modelling and portfolio optimisation capability.
Main Duties:
To assist in the analysis that will enable the development and enhancement of the company’s ability to measure, assess, aggregate, manage and report it’s exposures from assess level upwards, to include:
Static and non static assessed
Physical and nonphysical assets
As a vital member of the exposure management team, this person will be responsible for proactively helping to deliver:
The analysis to enable:
The development and enhancement of the company’s and group's exposure management data gathering, assessment aggregation and management capability
Monitoring and management of exposures against risk appetite
The management of the company’s diverse underwriting portfolio
Preparation and delivery of the underwriting plan
Creation and implementation of the underwriting and portfolio optimising strategy
Provision of insightful and timely exposure management information
Monthly and quarterly exposure management information
Maintaining appropriate exposure management discipline and practises across business divisions and offices within the group
Management and supervision of the exposure management intern programme, including active liaison with the learning development team.
The support the establishment of a group catastrophe modelling centre of expertise both as part of the team and where appropriate, working individually to:
Analyse, understand and help to articulate the strengths and weaknesses of external provided catastrophe models
Where appropriate, assist in the construction of alternatives to element s of externally provided catastrophe models and/or frameworks within which to interpret model outputs
Facilitate and support internal partnerships to understand underlying exposures, how models react to them and to build departmental credibility within the company and group.
Support the creation of external partnerships to research key assumptions used in the compilation of catastrophe models.
Technical skills:
Ability to program in different languages including VBA, SQL and SAS
MS office including:
Windows XP
Word – intermediate
Excel – intermediate including VBA programming
Access – intermediate
Education:
Essential:
Degree 2:1 or equivalent (preferably in a subject requiring complex numeracy)
Good A level’s and ‘O’ level/ GCSE or equivalent in English and maths
Five years of insurance industry experience and preferably ACII
Desirable:
Post – graduate qualification in maths related or business related subject
Relevant experience:
Previous commercial experience as an analyst or in operations within the commercial insurance industry is essential. Practical experience of assisting with the implementation and use of innovative data management and IT systems would be desirable.
Personal skills:
Insurance industry experience and strong inter-personal skills
Excellent academic qualifications with strong numerical and analytical ability
High level of business acumen and demonstrable initiative and work ethic
Enthusiastic and rounded individual, committed, strong time management and the ability to articulate opinions or conclusions, verbally and on paper
Ability to understand and assess complex and present clear analysis and conclusions
Strong presentation skills – drafting reports and presentations
Clear thinker with strong attention to detail
