Job Title:        Underwriter

 

Reports To:    Senior Underwriter

 

Location:       Brentwood 

 

 

Working with a Class of Business, the Underwriter is responsible for contributing to the execution of the Strategy for the Class and for undertaking all appointed activities, working within agreed underwriting authorities, so as to ensure achievement of financial plans for the Class.

Responsible for risk level Underwriting as well as engaging closely with all other functional areas of the business so as to ensure cohesive and efficient understanding and delivery of products and services for the Class.

 

Reporting to the Senior Underwriter, the role of Underwriter includes responsibility and accountability for:

Execution of the underwriting strategy for the Class of Business, working within the Syndicates established risk appetite

Managing a portfolio of new business and renewal business through allocated panel of brokers, selecting and pricing risks in accordance with Underwriting Authority and using appropriate tools

Undertake all Underwriting activities so as to deliver on financial plans and working within financial budgets for the Class of business.

Adhering to our established risk selection guidelines when selecting and quoting for business.

Participating in broker review meetings and contributing to performance review discussions and remediation plans as appropriate

Collaboration with other business segments and functional areas to ensure alignment of Class activities to the wider strategy.

Developing business relationships with the major brokers and other distribution partners in close co-operation with the Senior Underwriter.

Receive and respond to technical queries and referrals from Underwriting Services, Customers and Brokers

Deal with claim referrals within authority limits.

Ensure that TCF is a part of the organisations culture and behaviours

Having awareness of and ensuring adherence to all regulatory requirements, guidelines and working practices – both internally and externally

 

Must have demonstrable relevant technical experience in the Class of Business

Strong experience in executing risk selection and pricing strategies

Must be a team player, willing to take ownership of customer/broker issues and provide support to staff members.
