Department:
Statistics and Underwriting
The Statistics and Underwriting Department is primarily responsible for setting net premiums and monitoring profitability through analysis and reporting, both to group and client management.
The statistics team works closely with, and produces work for nearly every other department and up to board level.
There is regular reporting to be produced. Alongside this ad hoc analysis is requested often with tight deadlines giving the role variety.
The Job Role:
To produce client and internal reports:
This will involve updating, producing and checking existing reports within specific time periods in order to meet service levels. Implementing any adjustments and improvements reports to aid the team.
Creating reports for new/existing clients, and for internal purposes according to specific requirements.
Liaising with other departments to agree report structure and regularity for new requests.
Management information and data analyses:
This will involve updating existing analytical reports and data sets to be viewed by various other departments.
Provide data analysis from the main frame on which underwriting decisions can be made.
Provide analyses on an ad-hoc basis reports for management in other departments, and external clients.
Analyse data on mainframe computer to highlight possible risk areas for our client.
Creating financial projections, involved in budgeting and forecasting.
Administrative Work:
To aid the day-to-day running of the statistics department, including updating work lists and dealing with ad-hoc requests.
You will be reporting to the Underwriting and Statistic Manager, and the Statistics Team Leader and will need to provide assistance and work closely with all members of the Underwriting and Statistics department.
Requirements:
1-2 years experience working in a similar environment.
Educated to degree level, a mathematical based subject would be preferential. 'A' Level Maths would be essential.
Good numeracy and analytical skills are required.
PC Literate, good knowledge of Excel.
Experience of analysing, processing and manipulating large quantities of raw data.
Ability to present findings to individuals and other departments, and, or for external use, in a clear, concise format.
Flexible approach to work, ability to work on your own initiative.
Organise and prioritise workloads, complete work to specific deadlines.
Able to work in a team, show enthusiasm and willingness to learn.
