Key initial responsibilities

· To undertake training in both our underwriting systems and procedures. We would anticipate that a successful candidate with no prior underwriting experience would be able to achieve an initial level of underwriting authority within 3 months.

· Daily case underwriting of a very wide range of events taking place anywhere in the world. You will underwrite a mixture of new business and renewals to both direct clients and brokers.

· You will underwrite consistently and profitably, keeping within your underwriting authority, using referral to more experienced underwriters to sign off quotes when required.

· Ensure a close monitoring of renewing customers in order to maintain our current high renewal rate.

· To contribute towards achieving the team’s new business growth target.

· Competently handle incoming email enquiries and phone enquiries from both brokers and direct clients.

· To assist in growing our top line by:

o Up-selling cover to existing customers – either selling more covers or finding new events to cover

o Using our network of clients and brokers to find new customers

· Other additional responsibilities may include:

o Take overflow calls from our Service Co-ordinator

o Chasing renewals

o Chasing late payments

o Assist with user acceptance testing of ongoing IT changes to our systems

Key medium term responsibilities

· A successful candidate will soon be able to assume responsibility for:

o Managing relationships with some of our larger clients or brokers

o Managing our relationship with one or more of our regional offices

· Undertake internal sales training.

· Undertake visits to both direct clients and brokers. Initially this would be accompanying a more senior member of the team, but a successful candidate would quickly feel confident enough to run meetings on their own.

Key requirements of this role

· Preferably degree qualified with a minimum of 2 A levels at grade C or above. Suitably experienced individuals will be considered.

· Experience of working in the insurance sector, ideally in commercial broking or underwriting, would be helpful but not essential.

· Quick learner with an enquiring mind and good general knowledge of world affairs

· Ability to think on your feet, negotiate successfully and strike a deal

· Ability to build effective, long lasting relationships with both direct clients and brokers

· Drive, self motivation and determination to ‘go the extra mile’ to achieve results

· Flexibility to cope with the demands of dealing with a wide variety of clients, both direct/broker and new business/renewal.

· Good communication and influencing skills

· Ability to work as a team player within a small, busy team.
