Underwriting Analyst
Leading Lloyd’s Insurer is looking for an Underwriting Analyst to join their expanding team.
Main roles
· Maintaining necessary interaction with other departments, notably actuarial and finance
· Maintaining appropriate underwriting disciplines and practices across business divisions and offices
· Delivery of a more integrated exposure management platform – including achieving a deeper application of catastrophe modelling across all Divisions
· Maximising the business benefits from enhanced pricing disciplines across the business
· Application of greater business analysis to improve portfolio management, on both gross and net basis
· Delivery of changes required to underwriting practices under Solvency II
· Analysis and interpretation of underwriting data
· Clear presentation of output through the use of appropriate graphical, tabular or narrative formats
· Collate data and information from a range of sources
· Assist with the reporting and management of underwriting exposures
· Assist with syndicate business planning and quarterly underwriting reviews
· Maintaining underwriting manual
· Ensure the prompt and accurate production of regular and ad hoc reports
· Liaise with underwriters and other departments to maximise the effectiveness of the department
· Continually enhance the quality of available underwriting information
In addition, they would need to respond to ad hoc requests and assist the rest of the team as required.
The role provides very good scope for development within the department so the person should have the aptitude, aspiration and flexibility to expand their role over time.
Personal profile
The role will have a quantitative and analytical emphasis and the individual will have a broad range of skills and experience:
· Insurance industry experience - understands main principles of insurance and reinsurance and will have ideally worked in an underwriting environment
· Strong academic qualifications and ideally ACII
· Strong numerical and analytical abilities
· Clear thinker with strong attention to detail
· Self-motivated – good initiative and work ethic
· Strong time management skills
· Enthusiastic and rounded individual
· Strong organisational and interpersonal skills
· Data collection, analysis, interpretation and presentation
· Ability to analyse and digest information to determine key issues, providing comprehensive analysis and concise results
· Ability to distil data from a variety of sources, identifying clear results or alternative courses of action
· Strong presentation skills - drafting reports and presentations
· Ability to assess and produce clearly presented and insightful output of data or information, with strong emphasis on quality and accuracy
· Business planning and scenario analysis
