Job Description
The role:
Using market leading internet technology in dealing with underwriting referrals from brokers, you will be expected to underwrite Professional Indemnity and Specialty Commercial insurance in order to meet agreed service standards and key performance objectives. You will actively identify opportunities to cross-sell and build the whole business.
Key responsibilities:
To underwrite consistently and profitability
To develop close, effective relationships with brokers
To effectively negotiate with both internal and external parties including identified points of contact with a brokerage
To maintain and develop internal and external customer relations
To identify and challenge non-standard underwriting decisions within the Technical Underwriting Guide (TUG), with a reasoned referral to a product expert or senior underwriter
To identify non performing broker accounts in terms of key performance indicators and flag with the relevant Region to ensure appropriate action is taken.
Provide leadership to ensure that the team are maintaining a renewal retention level on existing business as agreed with your line manager
To act as a point of referral point for trainee underwriters and chosen product lines
Key requirements:
Preferably degree qualified with a minimum of 2 A levels at grade C or above, although this is not a pre-requisite for an experienced underwriter
ACII qualification or progression towards qualification
A minimum of two years relevant underwriting experience in PI or Commercial risks (experience in Speciality Commericial would be an advantage)
Demonstrable drive, self motivation and determination to achieve results
Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills combined with a proven track record of relationship management and customer focus
Able to apply consideration to potential outcomes and to make decisions with supervision in difficult and complex situations. Able to make logical decisions by using key facts available
Strong influencing, negotiation and leadership skills
Team player
Outgoing and confident
Consistently demonstrates behaviours conducive to achieving both personal and team objectives, in line with the core value of Our client
