Job Description
Job Summary:
Responsible for all aspects of Syndicate Accounting for live Syndicates from reviewing all data input to the completion of Lloyd’s and other regulatory returns to liaising with Underwriters and Actuaries to ensure efficient and accurate reporting. Working closely with the Syndicate Reporting Manager and assisting the Head of Syndicate Finance with numerous ad-hoc tasks. Liaison with Auditors.
Main Duties:
Full Accounting responsibility for live Syndicates including:
Full review and sign-off of monthly/quarterly trial balances.
Preparation of Quarterly Monitoring Return – liaising with the Syndicate staff and Actuaries, ensuring all the relevant information to complete the return is received in a timely manner.
Completion of initial review of the return and report on variances within the return.
Calculation of average brokerage and deductions for each underwriting year and discussion of variances with Syndicate staff.
Completion of ratio analysis from Actuarial data supplied – discussion of variances with Actuarial department.
Review of US regulatory returns – review and report on variances ensuring return is validated and obtaining sign off from the Finance Director before submitting to Lloyd’s.
Review of Canadian regulatory returns - review and report on variances ensuring return is validated and obtaining sign off from the Finance Director before submitting to Lloyd’s.
Preparation of Syndicate Annual Return – review of underlying accounting data for Annual Return, liaising with Syndicate staff, Actuaries and auditors to ensure the return is completed in a timely manner. Completion of initial review of the return.
Preparation of FSA Return – analysis of data produced from EPO software to ensure underlying data is correct.
Liaison with Actuaries and Underwriters to ensure the class of business results mirror what is expected.
Preparation of Solvency and Reserving Data return – analysis of data produced from EPO software to ensure underlying data is correct.
Production of Syndicate annual report & accounts.
Production of Distribution Report & Accounts.
Preparation of Schedule F&P – review of forms completed in the return.
Preparation of US Tax return – review of return to ensure completeness.
Production of Canadian Tax return – review of return to ensure completeness.
Production of
UK
income tax return – review of return to ensure completeness.
Review of LDTF and SPTF returns to Lloyd’s.
Production of Non-Underwriting forecasts for internal and regulatory reporting, including the exhibits for the internal Expert Review Committee.
Production of the technical accounts and non underwriting sections of the Syndicate Business Forecast/Plan.
Assisting Syndicate Reporting Manager in production of
ICA
forecasts.
Involvement in projects, including management of some projects within the Strategic Implementation Initiative.
Appraisal of junior staff.
Liaising with Auditors.
Any reasonable Ad-hoc duties.
Technical Skills:
Essential
Confident use of Excel to advanced level.
Basic level Word.
Experience with accounting software (Dynamics).
Desirable
Knowledge of Lloyd’s software.
Education and Qualifications:
Essential
Qualified Accountant (ACCA, CIMA, ACA), or qualification through experience.
Desirable
Lloyds’ Introductory Test (LIT).
Relevant Experience:
Essential
UK GAAP.
Lloyd’s Syndicate Accounting.
Experience with live Syndicates.
Desirable
Liaising with Underwriters & Actuaries.
IFRS.
Specialist Training:
Any specialist training will be given as required.
