Our client is a leading specialist insurer covering a diverse portfolio of personal and commercial risks The role Working within the PSC team, this role will be responsible for finding, developing and growing new business opportunities within the region. The focus will be on developing Technology and Media business but will involve underwriting and developing all lines of business. The role will involve extensive broker development and the successful candidate will be expected to actively identify scheme and cross sell opportunities and to continue to build the PSC business. Key responsibilities •To underwrite consistently and profitably •To develop close, effective relationships with brokers •To effectively negotiate with both internal and external parties including identified points of contact with a brokerage •To maintain and develop internal and external customer relations •To regularly visit broker partners and write their business •To identify and challenge non-standard underwriting decisions within the Technical Underwriting Guide (TUG), with a reasoned referral to a product expert or underwriting manager •To identify non performing broker accounts in terms of overall profitability, retention and new business ratios and take remedial steps to improve this business Key requirements •Preferably degree qualified with a minimum of 2 A levels at grade C or above, although this is not a pre-requisite for an experienced underwriter •ACII qualification or progression towards qualification •A minimum of two years relevant development underwriting experience •Demonstrable drive, self motivation and determination to achieve results •Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills combined with a proven track record of relationship management and customer focus •Able to apply consideration to potential outcomes and to make decisions with supervision in difficult and complex situations. Able to make logical decisions by using key facts available •Strong influencing, negotiation and leadership skills •Attainment of level 2 or above on the Underwriter Passport •Consistently demonstrates behaviours conducive to achieving both personal and team objectives.
