Job Description
To Underwrite Professions Insurance and stand alone new business within the Professional and Speciality Commercial account in London finding, developing and growing profitable new business opportunities through London Market and London retail brokers. Operating within a team of 4 and a larger London team of 13. Actively identifying opportunities to cross-sell and build the whole business.
Key responsibilities
• To develop and enhance external and internal relationships, dealing with varied and wide ranging broker contacts on a daily basis
• To build relationships with brokers where unprompted enquiries are facilitated, and develop and convert these
• To provide a point of excellence for senior brokers within a region
• To deal with complex technical referrals and to be able to write larger and more difficult risks
• To provide mentoring and coaching to less experienced underwriters
• To go the extra mile when dealing with challenging situations, raising the overall standards of operation
• To monitor the overall performance of the book and ensure remedial action is taken to correct any performance issues
• To write a minimum amount of GWP of business each year, as agreed with the line manager
• To analyse management and account information to support priority actions
Person Specification

Key requirements
• Preferably degree qualified with a minimum of 2 A levels at grade C or above, although this is not a pre-requisite for an experienced underwriter
• Able to demonstrate effective negotiation with all levels and types of broker, and experience of having dealt with non-standard risks effectively
• Able to conclude positive business deals
• Extraordinary communication skills able to positively affect other people and to win business
• Strong presentation skills to be able to pitch for business effectively and to influence decisions
• Able to form strong relationships with senior brokers and directors
• Able to make appropriate decisions when dealing with complex technical issues and can justify underwriting decisions
• Able to makes sound decisions even when facts are ambiguous and conflicting
• Will regularly challenge convention, writing ‘non standard’ business on a regular basis and able to takes decisive action on loss making business
• Demonstrable drive and energy to move self and business forward
• ACII qualification or close to completion
• Proven market reputation with wide ranging broker contacts
• Strong market and competitor knowledge
• Consistently demonstrates behaviours conducive to achieving both personal and team objectives, in line with the core values of the company
