Job Description
The Syndicate writes a number of liability classes and the resultant claims can be complex, high value and often involve a number of interested parties, both in the UK and overseas (predominantly in the US). At this company their claims department is seen as a crucial part of their customer service proposition and they pride themselves on their ability to handle their customers expectations in an efficient and fair fashion.
As a Claims Underwriter you will be responsible for handling various types of professional liability claims, from first advice to settlement within clearly defined authority limits. Working closely with brokers and clients you will ensure that a prompt and effective resolution is provided.
Key responsibilities
• To service brokers and clients, providing prompt and effective claim resolution, within clearly defined authority limits.
• To refer large or contentious claims to your immediate manager and, in turn, the Claims Manager.
• Report to Claims Manager and line underwriters on any changing claim trends.
• Liaise with, and provide feedback to, underwriters on product development and wordings.
• Appoint and manage experts to assist in claim investigation and resolution.
• Maximise recoveries, thereby eliminating any leakage.
• Some foreign travel (probably to USA) is extremely likely to be required e.g for court ordered mediations.
• Attendance at occasional evening social occasions expected. Person Specification
• Liability claims experience preferably in the insurance sector
• Educated to degree level (preferably Law)
• Knowledge of US legal system, US insurance law and insurance community would be highly beneficial but not essential
• Good mathematical skills (at least GCSE level achieved)
• A confident communicator with demonstrable communication skills both oral and written
• A driven individual and effective team worker
• Ability to prioritise work and work effectively and accurately under pressure, ensuring that deadlines are met
