Laboratory Technician Role Statement:

You will carry out development and type approval testing of all products for the Connector and Fittings product lines.
You’ll be responsible for the preparation, set up and testing of products in accordance with the following European and Industry standards and assist in the day to day running of the Lab.
Connector testing to BS EN / IEC 61238-1 and Engineering Recommendation C79.
Accessory testing to EN50393 and Engineering Recommendation C81/4.
Switchgear testing to BS EN 60439 parts 1 & 3 and BS EN 60947 parts 1 & 3.

Key tasks of the job:

Cut and prepare conductor in accordance with test specifications.
Prepare connector test loops in accordance with test specifications.
Connector testing - Electrical aging, short circuit testing, load pickup and tensile performance tests.
Cable accessory testing - LV joint assembly for electrical performance tests under various environmental conditions (applicant will be required to undertake some manual handling activity).
Switchgear testing – development and approval heat rise, dielectric, creepage and clearance testing.
Assist in the R&D testing of future connector designs and recording/analysis of results.
Monitoring and collection of test data in accordance with British & International Test specifications.
Performing scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on test equipment.
Maintaining equipment calibration records.
Identifying and ordering consumables for the day to day running of the laboratory.
Identify continual improvements to the facility.

Qualifications & specialist training required:

You will need to be from an Electrical/Electronic background (Hold or be working to a recognised qualification.)
Minimum – City and Guilds/NVQ in Electrical engineering or Electronic engineering Preferred – ONC level Good communication skills are essential as is a full driving licence!
