Job Description
Location: Didcot (UK) / Erlangen (Germany)
The Project:
Construction of a combined cycle power plant in Southern England (Didcot, Oxfordshire).
The Role:
Contract / Claims work will initially be carried out from Erlangen for the first 3 - 6 months.
Thereafter there will an opportunity for the Contract / Claims Manager to complete the assignment in the UK, either 'at site' or in the customer's offices in Surrey.
This role is ideal for someone interested in a short assignment abroad with a longer stint in the UK and so might appeal people who would not normally work abroad.
The Contract Manager will be part of the Contract Management Department and will be assigned to a Project Team.
Supports Project Management and the team in managing the customer, consortia and the subcontracts.
Co-ordinates with the Contract Manager on the construction site.
The work may require traveling abroad, sometimes for an extended period of time.
Contracts and correspondence are generally in English or German.
Contract interpretation and review, highlight and advise Project Management of all possible company liabilities, notice periods, onerous or conflicting contract provisions, condition precedents etc.
Defend incoming claims and prepare outgoing claims, review and prepare contractual correspondence and support project management in negotiation meetings.
Preparation of major construction claims up to for arbitration.
Candidate Profile:
A highly qualified Contract Manager experienced in the fields of Contract Management/Claim Management.
Be a professionally skilled: Mechanical, Heavy Civils or Quantity Surveying background with appropriate qualifications.
Good understanding of contract law Fluent in English both written and spoken Knowledge of additional languages (German, French, Spanish, Italian) welcome but not essential.
Demonstrate a flexible approach and with excellent interpersonal, organizational and presentational skills
Required Experience:
Experience in a similar sole contract management position.
Experience in power generation or mechanical/piping major EPC and subcontracts.
Contract interpretation and review, highlight and advise.
Project Management of all possible company liabilities, notice periods, onerous or conflicting contract provisions, condition precedents etc.
Defend incoming claims and prepare outgoing claims, review and prepare contractual correspondence and support project management in negotiation meetings.
Familiar with the preparation of major construction claims up to for arbitration.
