Job Title: Inwards Reinsurance Claims Underwriter


Job Description

Over all purpose of the job:

The Syndicate writes a large reinsurance account both through Lloyd’s  and the company. The role is to be responsible on a day-to-day basis for providing assistance to our client in the adjustment of large inwards reinsurance claims and on the adjustment of inwards reinsurance claims. The claims can be complex, high value and often involve a number of interested parties, both in the UK and overseas (predominantly in the US). As a Claims Underwriter you will be responsible for handling various types of inwards reinsurance claims, including non-marine cat, non marine pro rate and non-marine treaty, from first advice to settlement within clearly defined authority limits. Working closely with brokers, clients and line underwriters you will ensure that a prompt and effective resolution is provided.
 

Principle duties and responsibilities:

To service brokers and clients, providing prompt and effective claim resolution, within clearly defined authority limits.
To refer large or contentious claims to your immediate manager and, in turn, the Claims Manager.
Report to Claims Manager and line underwriters on any changing claim trends.
Liaise with, and provide feedback to, underwriters on product development and wordings. Appoint and manage experts appointed to assist in claim investigation and resolution. Maximise recoveries, thereby eliminating any leakage.
Some foreign travel (probably to USA) is likely to be required.
Attendance at occasional evening social occasions expected.

Qualifications, Skills, Experience and personal requirements:

Extensive reinsurance claims experience in an underwriting or broking organisation.
Educated to degree level (non graduates with demonstrable relevant experience and excellent A’levels would be considered).
Good mathematical skills (at least GCSE level achieved).
Progress in ACII examinations or commitment to complete them.
A confident communicator with demonstrable communication skills both oral and written.
A driven individual and effective team worker.
Ability to prioritise work and work effectively and accurately under pressure, ensuring that deadlines are met.
Knowledge of US legal system would be highly beneficial.
Interest and enthusiasm to learn within the role.
Willingness to travel internationally as required and attends evening business social events as appropriate.
