Job Description
Personal Accident Department
Reporting to:
Accident & Health Underwriting Manager
Role:
To assist in the underwriting and development of the Accident & Health account in line with the Company’s Business plan to ensure a profitable portfolio of business.
Duties:
To identify and analyse potential new profitable Personal Accident / Illness / Travel opportunities including those for larger schemes of over £150,000 gross premium income.
To underwrite within guidelines issued by the A&H Underwriting Manager on behalf of Munich Re and refers all queries outside the underwriting authority to the A&H Underwriting Manager.
To contribute to the departmental underwriting and business planning strategy.
To develop strong relationships with sub – Coverholders, managed partners and agents and assist in the maintenance of existing agents, sub – Coverholders and managed partners relationships through visits, advice and entertainment.
To liaise with internal and external underwriters at sub – Coverholders.
To provide PA underwriting training to sub – Coverholders, managed partners and agents.
To assist with product development.
To attend underwriting meetings.
To liaise with the other internal departments.
Desirable Experience:
Able to demonstrate sound understanding of underwriting UK Direct Personal Accident, Illness and Business / Travel Insurance.
Must have had exposure to the London & Regional Broker Market, preferably in a business development role.
Skills:
Must be a strong decision maker, with a proactive and confident attitude to resolving problems and dealing with day to day responsibilities.
A sound general education to ‘A’ level standard is essential.
A degree or evidence of further professional development (ACII) would be advantageous but is not essential.
In depth knowledge of UK Direct Accident & Health business.
Insurance company underwriting and development experience.
Commercial awareness.
Competitor awareness.
Understanding delegated authorities.
Hold excellent communication and negotiation skills.
Verbal, presentation and written communication.
Presenting data and information.
Time management and prioritisation.
Self development.
To be willing to travel regularly and be used to working within a team.
Hold a UK driving licence.
IT literacy in Word, Outlook and Excel.
Expected Financial Impact.
Attainment of the business plan.
Development of new opportunities.
Increased profitable income.
Additional growth in the 2009 and beyond business plans.
Help to maintain existing accounts and secure accounts.
