The Compliance Department
The Compliance Department of the company (UK Branch) is staffed by 8 individuals, including the Head of Compliance, and is comprised of 2 teams, that are led by 3 Senior Compliance Officers reporting into the Head of Compliance.
Two Senior Compliance Officers, who report into the Head of Compliance, lead the team that the candidate will join. Their team comprises 5 members (including this vacancy).
A separate team of 2 perform the Control Room function, and manage such tasks as conflicts of interest management, monitoring, reviewing research material, personal account dealing and Takeover Panel reporting.
The Role:
The primary responsibilities of this team of 3 are to provide an advisory service to business, maintain regulatory and exchange relationships (including the Department reporting tasks, membership registrations, broker registrations, exchange enquiries and investigations, distributing exchange notices), develop and enhance policies and procedures that apply to the Department and within the Branch, review the financial promotion material that is issued, assist in the provision of order routing services to clients.
The team also participates in various projects, which can include new client offerings.
There is an opportunity for the role to develop with training, particularly if the candidate has limited experience of derivative products.
It is considered to be a role that will develop with training.
There are no direct reports to the role.
The role will require a combination of teamwork and stand-a-lone tasks.
The role requires an individual who can work under their own initiative and experience when targets / tasks are set.
The individual will be expected to flourish under the delegated responsibility, which will be steadily expanded based upon ability.
The role will be hands on, often actively assisting in advising and helping the business (front office, operations, IT, HR, etc.).
The candidate must be able to deal with the day to day administrational requirements in the Team as well as the higher level issues (i.e. willing to get their hands dirty).
The candidate is expected to be bright, ambitious and have the usual sets of qualities such as good written and verbal communication skills, the ability to analyse issues and problems, etc. The individual will be required to develop other members of the team in relation to the allocated responsibilities.
Experience & Skills:
Experience:
Compliance experience in an organisation that provided and / or prime brokerage trading, settling and clearing, and associated knowledge of exchange and clearing houses rules and requirements, exchange registrations, exchange reporting requirements. Awareness of derivatives products will be an advantage, but not essential as training will be provided. The candidate should also be familiar with MiFID and its application to business.
It is preferable to have knowledge of the international exchange rules and regulations on the major derivatives and securities markets (As above).
Unlike other major investment banks, the company Compliance Department is not resourced to provide specialist knowledge of one sector or another e.g. just equities or prime brokerage.
The candidate must have a broad knowledge base and the ability to be able to adapt / interpret requirements across the business line activities.
This is a role giving the individual a significant opportunity to cross train and gain knowledge across a variety of business lines and products.
It is a key requirement to be able to provide solutions to the business, for instance, where it may not be permissible to provide a certain service, a solution can be found that meets the business need in a compliant manner, and to position the Compliance Department to be able to facilitate the needs of the business.
Person Skills:
The ability to interact with colleagues and all levels of staff and senior management, is essential in order to present a professional and credible face for the Department, and therefore obtain "buy-in" to Compliance by all staff, including senior management.
