Job Title: Compliance Officer


Job Description

Role Overview:

This is an exciting opportunity working closely with the Compliance Manager to implement Compliance strategies across the business. Including the provision of independent assurance of  the company’s compliance with regulatory requirements. As the compliance officer, you will apply your extensive knowledge to primarily ensure our customers are treated fairly. In addition practical experience of ICOB/COB and other compliance issues such as Data Protection and Financial Crime Legislation will enable you to become a key figure in the business. This is a challenging position that will require frequent contact with senior management. Therefore the ability to engage, influence and persuade others effectively is a key to the role.
 

Key Accountabilities:

To support the Group Compliance Function to meet its objectives by:
Support the team’s role in proactively leading Compliance thinking (Treating Customers Fairly, regulation, financial crime etc).
Help provide strategic advice on compliance issues identifying likely future trends as well as current issues.
Work with the business to create commercially sensitive compliance procedures and controls, provide commercially orientated compliance advice and lead or participate in relevant projects.
Support and mentor other team members to realise their full potential.
Help create and deliver an appropriate compliance monitoring programme for the company, taking into account the role of, and work done by, Internal Audit.
Proactively keeping up to date with the regulatory requirements for operations within the company.
Analysing the impact of international and local regulatory developments, consultation documents and regulations on operations within our client and reacting appropriately to each.
To help set and apply standards and policies for regulated activities.
Delivering compliance related technical training.
Dealing with compliance associated administration.
Providing support to colleagues on compliance related matters.
Key Performance Indicators.
Can describe the global regulatory framework which applies to the company.
Demonstrates a “business first” practical application of regulatory requirements into the company.
Can analyse the impact of regulations/regulatory developments on operations within the company.
Works empathetically with the business to create compliant and business friendly controls and procedures.
Drives matters forward to a conclusion on a “can do” basis.
Good presentation skills adapting message for the audience and the subject matter.
Can specify, collate and analyse relevant management information.
Liaises with, and appropriately controls, third party advisers and regulators.

The Individual:

The individual would need to be a competent relationship builder at all levels, he/she would need to have strong inter-personal skills developed through regular contact with colleagues and third parties.
You will be able to establish credibility both internally and externally through technical knowledge, approach and professionalism.
Established compliance experience in the insurance sector with the FSA or an equivalent overseas regulator.
Technically proficient in the FSA rules on insurance conduct of business, approved persons, dispute resolution, systems & controls, training & competence and FSA prudential requirements for insurance businesses and some knowledge of latest regulatory developments.
General understanding of compliance structures and operations, and industry best practice in compliance.
Degree qualified with at least two years experience within a within a core/central compliance role.
excellent written and oral communication skills – including the ability to draft complex documents/policies.
Ability to communicate the vision for compliance and ethics to the business.
Self confidence to take a firm stand.
Effective planning skills with the ability to see the big picture and follow through on operational detail.
Ability to work independently with a pro-active approach and a high level of self motivation.
