Our client is moving their market leading, event insurance division to Colchester to fully integrate it with the rest of the company and they also intend to rebrand the operation.

As a Trainee Underwriter you will be expected to quickly learn the basics in order to underwrite cancellation, property and legal liability insurance associated with events, as your skills and experience grows you will also become involved in cross selling commercial insurance business.

Client and broker facing, you will develop your technical and communication skills to underwrite renewal and new business, distributed through intermediaries and the direct channels primarily in the UK and Europe.

Key responsibilities:

To underwrite renewal and new event insurance
To develop new business through existing brokers and clients as well as spotting other opportunities
To build and maintain strong relationships with brokers and clients
To help achieve budgeted profitable business by:
increasing enquiry levels
maximising profitable retention/conversion of renewal and new business
maintaining reputation through achievement of planned service levels
Assist with the development of team members
Some travel to our Tunbridge Wells office will be necessary for a period of time

Qualifications, Skills, Experience and personal requirements:

Educated to degree level or equivalent
Progress towards ACII (to be completed in 4 years)
Experience of contingency insurance underwriting preferable but experience of commercial underwriting including general liability essential.

Excellent IT skills and aptitude
