Reports to: Technical Services Manager
Hours of work: 35 / week (overtime, as required)
Main purpose of Role:
The Technical Specialist - Database Administration is responsible for the administration and devel-opment of the database architecture within the company. In addition to day-to-day administration there will be a requirement to provide technical resource to projects as defined through the Project Of-fice as well as providing 3rd level support to the business across multiple locations
Scope of Job / Key Accountabilities:
To design, deliver and maintain the database infrastructure that underpins systems managed within Service Delivery.
Provide 3rd level support to the Service Desk.
To provide technical resources for infrastructure and application projects as defined through the Pro-ject Office.
Creation, deletion and movement of Databases (including, but not limited to: SQL/DB2/Oracle/Pervasive SQL/Access)
Configuration changes and updates to all databases as required utilising the change management processes within the company.
Ongoing capacity planning and management in line with Business growth plans.
Monitor all databases to ensure proactive maintenance to avoid unplanned downtime, and that scheduled tasks have run and completed correctly.
Co-ordinate and organise the archiving of data in accordance with FSA compliance regulations
Provide performance tuning to the databases as necessary to maintain maximum efficiency.
Perform data translation and integration services as required.
To provide advice and consultancy where appropriate in the development of the databases and data-base services.
Provide input and support for Disaster Recovery and High-Availability strategies. Assist in the creation of robust Disaster Recovery procedures and documentation in-line with corporate standards.
Create and maintain support documentation and procedures, and ensure that they are adhered to.
undertake root cause analysis of reported faults, design and implement fixes
Work with Group Security regarding security policies and practices ensuring that adequate and robust security measures are designed, implemented, and updated.
Skills / Experience:
Degree calibre (or equivalent), plus demonstrable practical experience in administering a mixed MS SQL and DB2/UDB technical infrastructure.
Expert knowledge of MS SQL and DB2/UDB. Ideally with Microsoft Certified Database Administrator (MCDBA) accreditation.
Be a team player and to work effectively and persuasively at all levels of management.
Proven ability to effect changes through process improvements.
Ability to effectively contribute to project strategies and plans.
Ability to promote best technical infrastructure and service practises within project teams.
Ability to respond quickly to high impact problems with the operational services to the business.
Understand and promote security policies and standards.
Experience in problem tracking, incident management and change management processes/systems.
Knowledge of techniques associated with planning, and monitoring progress of projects, and compe-tency in IT-based project management tools (e.g. MS Project and Visio).
Excellent verbal communication skills at all levels. Written communication must be clear, accurate and professional.
Ability to interface with the Business, as well as 3rd Party technology partners.
