Job Description
Over all purpose of the job:
The Syndicate writes a large number of binding authority accounts through Lloyd’s. Whilst these binders are predominantly North American based the Syndicate also issues authorities to Cover-holders in the UK and elsewhere Worldwide.
The role is to work within the First Party Claims Team dealing with the high volume of claims emanating from these accounts. The claims can be complex, high value and often involve a number of interested parties. At our clients claims department is seen as a crucial part of our customer service proposition and we pride ourselves on our ability to handle our customers’ expectations in an efficient and fair fashion.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
Manage claims portfolio proactively from first advice to settlement, with the emphasis on early settlement of disputes rather than reverting to litigation.
Work closely with brokers and clients, providing prompt and effective claim resolution, within clearly defined authority limits.
Refer contentious and/or financially significant claims to the Head of First Party claims.
Assist in providing meaningful qualitative and quantitative data to senior management, actuaries, underwriters, which can be used to enhance the underwriting process.
Identify, understand and communicate key technical issues impacting the First Party book of business.
Assist in audits of services providers; more generally to appraise the value added by service providers, and to evaluate the changing relationship dynamics. Liaise with, and provide feedback to, underwriters on product development and wordings.
Maximise recoveries/leakage.
Take responsibility for certain aspects of the claims re-engineering process
Qualifications, Skills, Experience and personal requirements:
Educated preferably to degree level - graduates will be particularly well regarded (non graduates with demonstrable relevant experience and excellent A levels would be considered)
Insurance industry experience
Knowledge of principles of US/UK/common law jurisdictions
Completed ACII examinations or commitment to complete them
Good mathematical skills (at least GCSE level achieved)
A confident communicator with demonstrable communication skills both oral and written
Sound commercial judgement
A driven individual and effective team worker
Ability to prioritise work and work effectively and accurately under pressure, ensuring that deadlines are met
Willingness to travel internationally (probably USA) as required and attend evening business social events as appropriate.
